Story behind the song
Steph Elder (violin) and her mother Marianne currently foster pregnant, cast off, rejected and unwanted dogs for an animal rescue here in SW Wales. We have lost count but we know that around 200 dogs have been helped to find their 'forever homes' from Marianne's house. Sylvia Vanatta's rescue, her staff and volunteers, at Many Tears have saved and re-homed over 25,000 dogs in eleven years with no government support or funding. Following a recent undercover exposure of a licensed breeding premises, screened by BBC Panorama TV on 16th May 2016, regulation tightened, the establishment closed, and rescues including Many Tears are now experiencing increasing financial pressure.
Al and Steph decided to make a song to try and raise funds for the rescue. If you would like to help please download our song Haven of Hope and if you would like to make a small (or large!) donation all proceeds will go to the rescue and help more lives to be saved.

In hope, a big Thank You,
Al - vocals, guitars, harmonica
Steph - violin
PS. In 2012 our band PASTAL made a CD to raise funds for the rescue. It sold well and all proceeds are for the rescue.
The photo is of a 'special' pup called Pogue - he was the 'runt' of a litter born with us, which we then fostered 4 years ago. His brothers and sisters were all healthy but there was something wrong with Pogue so we adopted him and he was our PASTAL mascot at the CD launch. He needed that jersey for warmth and that was his first and only visit to Traeth Newport - sadly his heart stopped beating in his sleep a week later. He was 17 weeks young :'(

Lyrics
Haven of Hope
The soul has no rainbow without all those tears
Tears surely come on this road
A kennel of souls, unwanted, unloved
Arrive every day by the load.
Rejects from breeders, orphans and strays
With each precious one we must cope.
Welcomed and sheltered by brave volunteers
In Sylvia’s haven of hope.
Puppies come in bedraggled and scared
Some near the end of their day
Each one is cared for, nurtured and loved
Given a warm place to stay.
Fostered and sheltered, their lives turned around,
They learn how to live in a home
Soon you may see their brave hearts are set free
No longer they’ll suffer alone.
Some two hundred souls have passed through this house
Over six years or so
Each one remembered with fondness and joy
Often so hard to let go.
The tears that we’ve shed and the dogs loved and fed
Who stop for a while on their way
To find a new home, just one of their own
Are the rainbows we watch every day.
