Contemporary classical, new age, acoustic piano music AND SONGS!
I didnt discover I could write music until I was nearly forty. Those were my road warrior days, and there was a hotel in Atlanta with a piano in the atrium where I used to give impromptu concerts. My musical training was as a classical pianist, and I thought of my music then as being in that genre (although they were very popular. People used to hang off the balconies in the evening listening to me play).. When I retired, I started to write novels. When I published the first one, I mentioned in the biography that I was also a composer. On a whim, I recorded some of my music and sent it to the editor. Shes a big rock fan, but she loved my soothing piano music. So, here are some pieces for you to (hopefully) enjoy. You can find my novels, also, under my pen name (W Richard St. James) at clublighthousepublishing.com . Youll see that the music may be mellow, but the books are very spicy!

Story behind the song
This is a poem I wrote some time in college -- probably freshman or sophomore year. I set it in the late 80s when I started to write music. Like Trees and Leaves, this is a poem about the seasons, but an earlier one.
Lyrics
Gentle Rain Come gentle rain wash winter's wrath away, With melancholy mists redeem despair. The snow's cruel white trans form to gentle gray, and let the sound of hope beat through the air. From speeding clouds descending to the earth, Beat out up on the grass the winter's dirge. From heaven's height, pro claim the world's re birth, And let the joyous waters swell and surge. For long my mind is numb with winter's frost, And long my soul in winter's wrath has lain. Let vernal pilgrims seek what autumn lost. Consume my ice forged bond with gentle rain. For winter's crystal nights re veal the sky, And to the distant stars my heart a spires, But frozen in gloom's lake I can not fly To frolic in the frenzy of their fire.
